Where have all the cool cars gone?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I've noticed over the past 20 years or so that it has become more and more difficult for me to easily recognize a specific make or model of any car. The reason for this is that many cars have basically the same (boring) shape. In an effort to make cars more aerodynamic, the car manufacturers have taken away the uniqueness of a car that made it stand out in a crowd. They have all started to look like the Dodge Neon. And the funny thing is, young people will actually spend time and money trying to customize these cars by putting wings on the trunk, switching out the hubcaps for mag wheels and maybe even getting a custom paint job. I'm sorry but nothing is going to make a Dodge Neon (or similar car) look cool. What happened to the Cougar, the Chevelle, the GTO, the 280ZX, the Charger, the Trans-Am, and the Z-28? In 1976 you could drive off the lot with the car pictured above and have the coolest ride in town. It was naturally awesome looking and everybody knew what kind of car you now owned. When I'm on the road and see any of the cars mentioned here, it brings a smile to my face and a sense of melancholy as those days of unique looking cars drift further and further into the past. That's just my middle aged opinion. Image and video hosting by TinyPic Find your favorite Great Old TV Shows available on DVD.
