What more of a sign do we need?

I know major oil spills don't happen everyday but why do we continue to risk the devastation from them? When will we as a nation move on to better/cleaner forms of energy? I realize the changes would be difficult, costly and lengthy but it would be so good for our country. Imagine if we didn't have to depend so much on foreign countries for our energy needs and our environment was never again polluted by these accidents or the exhausts of our millions of cars. I hope that because of this recent oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, not a single additional oil rig is ever constructed out there. Hopefully, these offshore rigs will eventually fade into history........................
